After repeatedly trying to get an answer, we now finally have it confirmed that Aspyr Media will be doing no further updates to Borderlands 2. While Aspyr Media are still continuing to update their ports of Civilization VI for Linux / macOS, the situation with the Borderlands series is just sad.
NOTICE: It is possible for Mac, Linux, and Windows to become out of sync during updates or patches. Within this time period, Mac users will only be able to play multiplayer with other Mac users. Civilization VI Mac can not switch to Fullscreen. To bypass this, launch the game in OpenGL. This is a known issue that is occurring when using Metal. I've had a blast playing this game, and even though the price is a bit high, it's worth it, trust me! I was able to play the game with all of the advanced graphics setting on, and as high as possible on my 15' Early 2010 MBP with 8GB of ram, quad-core 2.2GHz i7 processors, and a Intel HD 3000 graphics card. FLAWLESS game playing.
You might be confused, since Borderlands 2 is from 2012. So why are we mentioning this now? Well, it came to Linux later in 2014 and last year it gained one final DLC with Borderlands 2: Commander Lilith & the Fight for Sanctuary plus the Borderlands 2 Ultra HD Texture Pack. Both of which are missing for Linux and along with those and updates to support them, this broke cross-platform play between Linux, macOS and Windows.
Aspyr Media said last year they were working to get it all up to date on Linux. Time went on, we reached out to them a few times and each time it went unanswered. Until today that is, where their partners got in touch with us with a statement: 'At this time, we can confirm that there are no further updates planned for Borderlands 2 on Linux and Mac. We will continue to provide customer service support to players via support.aspyr.com.'.
Note: while it wasn't mentioned, this all likely affects Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel too.
Obviously all games stop being updated at some point, not everything is a live-service style game and developers do move on. Still, missing entire updates and DLC is ridiculous. We have no idea if this is due to Gearbox Software, 2K or Aspyr Media directly and we likely never will as these sorts of deals are never made public.

History[edit]
In 1996, Aspyr Media, Inc., was established by Michael Rogers and Ted Staloch in Austin, Texas. Staloch, who had a background in sales and marketing and Rogers, who worked with TechWorks, noticed that there was a lack of gaming titles available to Mac owners and set out to change it.[1] According to Rogers, when naming the company, they “wanted something meaning ‘to aspire and be great’” and also “memorable and unique.” Aspyr made its name specializing in porting video games from Microsoft Windows to macOS,[4] including popular franchises Call of Duty, Sid Meier's Civilization, Star Wars, Borderlands, and SimCity.[3]
By 2003, they owned 60 percent of the Mac entertainment market.[5] In 2005, Aspyr partnered with Alex Seropian of Wideload Games and released their first originally-published AAA game, Stubbs The Zombie, to Mac OS, Windows and Xbox.[6] In 2015, Aspyr Media expanded their platform catalog again by releasing an iOS port of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic[7] and later, Bioware's classic-action RPG, Jade Empire - a title they extended to Android as well.[8] In 2015, Aspyr developed and published Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy Remastered, a remaster of a game developed by Quantic Dream, to a worldwide audience with enhanced game features, updated visuals and controls, as well as content that was censored in the original North American release.[9]

According to Elizabeth Howard, vice president of publishing at Aspyr Media, the company's current focus is less on internal IP and more on company growth, establishing bigger undertakings with big brands.[10] Aspyr has published over 190 games, and have added 90 plus members to their team since 1996.[2]
Games[edit]
Currently, Aspyr's catalog includes popular games such as Sid Meier's Civilization VI, developed in 2018 on Mac, Linux, iOS and Nintendo Switch,[11]Layers of Fear,[3]Observer,[3]Torn,[12] and the re-releases of LucasArts titles: Star Wars: Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast and Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy.[10]
